IT in Tripura :

In order to give impetus to the development of Information Technology sector in the state of Tripura, the State Government decided to form a separate Directorate of Information Technology (IT) under the Department of Industries. The Directorate of IT has become functional in the month of April, 1999 and is headed by Sri Ashutosh Jindal as Director. The Directorate after formation has placed special emphasis on computerisation of various government activities and on promotion of IT education in the state. One of the first tasks of the Directorate was the launching of the Information - cum - Facilitation Centre (IFC) in the State Secretariat in close association with the NIC State Unit, Agartala.

The Directorate has also been instrumental in the starting of the Government of Tripura's Official Website, namely, http://www.tripura.nic.in/, which has been developed by the NIC State Unit, Agartala.

The State Government has also finalised the "IT Policy, 2000" of the state which was released to the press on June 13, 2000 by Shri Pabitra Kar, Minister, Industry & Commerce (Incharge of Information Technology).
