A brief Service Profile The Tripura State Unit of the NATIONAL INFORMATICS CENTRE (NIC), Department of Information Technology, Government of India was formally setup in 1989-90 in line with other states in the country. The center though located in a remote state of North East part of India, is now comparable with the best in the country in terms of skilled manpower and latest Information Technology tools and services. In Tripura all the four Districts have been brought under NICNET coverage by opening NIC-District Informatics Centre manned by District Informatics Officer(DIO) and Programming Assistant in the respective office complex of District Magistrate & Collector. NIC has prepared E-Governance Action Plan for the state of Tripura which has been approved by the Govt. of Tripura. The following projects in different State and Central Government offices are being implemented in Tripura by NIC-Tripura:
Project: Design and Development of Tripura Secretariat LAN A Local Area Network (LAN), with an interface to NICNET for Internet services, consisting of different Buildings/Bhavans/Directorates at Agartala is made operational by commissioning inter building Radio Frequency Link (RF), OFC, Network servers, high end switches, CAT5 cabling by NIC-Tripura. The LAN has actually revolutionized the working environment in this remote State. VIPs including ministers are able to browse Internet services sitting right in their room.
NIC has taken upon itself the task to make sure that Tripura, the remote North East State, becomes an active member to derive benefits of the ‘Global Information Technology Revolution’ as experienced due to INTERNET. NIC-Tripura is providing dial-up TCP/IP Internet access to NICNET domain users in Agartala. Presently ten telephone lines are dedicated for dial-up services for Internet access, which will be further expanded on requirements. NIC-Tripura State Unit is equipped with skilled manpower in the field of conceptualization, visualization, script writing, web authoring and programming to meet web needs for Govt. departments in Tripura for effective presence on the Net. NIC has setup Video Conferencing facility in 26 different cities in India including in Tripura at New Secretariat Building, Agartala. This centre is equiped with latest SCPC-DAMA type VSAT and TANDBERG VC System. Different State and Central Govt. departments are using this service for project monitoring, appraisal and for administrative purposes.
NIC-Tripura State Centre conducts regular training programs, generally free for Govt. officials, using latest teaching tools. This year around 250 officials are being trained. A total of about 2500 Government officials are already trained by NIC-Tripura State Centre and District Centres so far under different modules viz. Computer Awareness, MS Windows and MS Office Productivity Suite, Working with MS access, LAN & Internet, E-Governance Training & Workshop.
